Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. If those spikes aren’t sharp enough – or you’re beyond relaxed already – you won’t feel much.
After a few minutes, the tingling sensation fades into a deep, relaxing warmth. The redness is purely a circulation boost. You might even fall asleep.

I’ve been enjoying the mat so far. I have real mental clarity and fell over all more relaxed. I struggling using it on the floor and it does take a bit longer to relax but you do get there. I would be good to have more relaxation choices on the app.

I tried Shakti mat level 2, 3 and 4.
Level 2, I felt more spikes and it was a global calm for me and my brain. Level 3 just made me feel frustrated that it wasn't the intensity I was looking for...I only felt like there were less spikes...not necessarily more intensity. Level 4 is better (for me personally) than level 3...at least there is more intensity, but I do miss the feeling of lots of spikes all at once...so I feel like there could easily be a level 5 with a mix of longer and the current, shorter spikes!!! I want more spikiness! <3 With the level 4, I put a 15lb weighted blanket on my stomach and chest area and then a 10 lb dumbbell on top of that. (So I get a good squish and the relaxing spikes all at once...and enough spikiness! )
As far as why I am using it...or what I get from it...the spikeys, within a few seconds, calm me way down! My whole body relaxes and I can just breath and enjoy the low heat / burn / warmth ( plus the added squish) !! Potentially helpful info for new buyers: I am autistic and have a high pain tolerance and overactive nervous system. I've tried so may things to calm down my brain and body...this is the first one I have found that works in seconds! I love to use it after working out and stretching...and in the evening to calm down from the day (or a calm down during a busy or intense day)
At this point, I cant imagine living without it! Happy shakti-ing!!! :):):)

this is the absolute best thing for relaxation and tight muscles. i can easily fall asleep on it, and i find level 4 to be much more effective than my old standard mat. that thing i had to like fold under me to even notice it. .... yes, i am the kind of person that falls asleep during tattoos. how did you know?
anyways, i tell everyone about this thing and have my friends try it. i even got one (standard level) for my 70+ year old mother, and she swears by it! she's perfectly happy with just the standard level.
also i'm glad i got the premium one this time instead of the original, the feel is much more plush vs earthy. however, the original one has loops so i could hang it on the wall. this one doesn't 😔 i miss the loops.

I got this mat a week ago so haven’t yet had time to see long term benefits but even so I am absolutely loving my mat. The first 5 minutes can feel abit nerve wracking that it is quite sharp but then you start to feel you pulse throughout your back and it all starts to warm up. 20 mins actually flies by and I find such an intense sense of relaxation after I’m done. Helps really bring me down ready for sleep in the evenings and feels like it releases a lot of tension throughout. I’ve been recommending to all my friends already!
